Ingredients:
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes (or 2 cups fresh tomatoes, blended)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 garlic clove, minced (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil (or fresh basil, finely chopped)
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste (optional for richer flavor)
Instructions:
Heat Olive Oil: In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
Sauté Garlic: Add the minced garlic (or garlic powder) to the pan and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Add Tomatoes: Pour in the crushed tomatoes (or blended fresh tomatoes). Stir to combine.
Season: Add oregano, basil, sugar, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well to combine all the flavors.
Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. If you'd like a thicker sauce, you can let it simmer a little longer.
Taste and Adjust: Taste the sauce and adjust the seasonings as needed. You can add a little more sugar if the sauce is too acidic, or more herbs for stronger flavor.
Cool: Let the sauce cool before spreading it on your pizza dough. This helps it not to make the crust soggy.
Enjoy your homemade pizza sauce!
